Possessing over 40 years of experience in the financial sector, Charles Schara is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Internal Auditor (CIA). He serves as president and CEO of Alexandra, VA's CGS Consulting, LLC, where he provides financial and small business consulting services. He specializes in accounting, finance, system security, auditing systems, mergers and acquisitions, and management control.
Before joining the VA-based firm in 2014, Charles Schara built a decorated 37-year career with GEICO, in which he served a variety of executive roles. Charles Schara was hired by GEICO in 1976 upon completing his bachelor's degree in economics and accounting at College of the Holy Cross.
Within one year, he was promoted to treasurer systems accountant and by 1983, was tasked with managing GEICO Life Insurance Companies. The following year, he became the company's youngest planning center manager when he was promoted to the position of assistant vice president responsible for internal audit.
Mr. Schara spent the last 26 years of his career with the company as treasurer of GEICO Corporation and its subsidiaries. Beyond his primary responsibility of managing short-term investments and traditional treasurer areas such as payroll, payables, receivables and billing systems and internet security, he also chaired the corporate payment task force and the board for the benefit plans.
